Journal Writing Prompt: Chess anyone?
“Avoid the crowd. Do your own thinking independently. Be the chess player, not the chess piece.”
~Ralph Charell
Do you find yourself following the crowd and simply doing what “everyone else is doing”? Or, do you like to strike out on your own, evaluate everything for yourself and then form your own conclusion? Or, doing deeper, do you feel like everything you do is part of a greater plan, and you are just going along for the ride? Write about this in your journal.
Journal writing prompt bonus: A friend of mine and I were talking recently, and we were raised very differently as far as limitations placed on our aspirations by our parents. My parents told me that I could do or be anything I wanted to be, and that success was a matter of taking the reins and, as Nike says “Just do it”. On the other hand, she was not given that sort of positive reinforcement. In your journal, write about whether you believe how you were raised affects whether, as Ralph Charell says, you are a chess piece (being moved by others) or a chess player (doing the moving).
Happy Journaling!
