Journal Writing Prompt: Liberty
So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause.
~George Lucas, Senator Amidala in Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
US movie director & screenwriter (1944 - )
In your journal, consider today’s quote in a today-oriented context. What do you suppose George Lucas (via the Star Wars character) means by the quote? Do you see this happening in today’s society? Alternatively, is the fictitious character simply stating an untruth?
Journal writing prompt bonus: Sometimes, it’s easy to take our liberties from granted. In your journal, write out a short list of the liberties that you value most in your life. Can you envision a time when they may be gone? If so, imagine the context in which it could be taken? How do you suppose it would be presented to you - something “for your own good”? A life lesson? Write about it in your journal.
Happy journaling!

Liberty dying to thunderous applause means that the masses have been deceived into believing something good is happening; dying in the silence of apathy feels more like what we’re seeing today.
I don’t know, Tom. I see *alot* of thunderous applause for seemingly small things that kill our liberty one by one. Usually, it’s in the name of “the greater good” - but, I am not sure that’s always the case.
There are (IMHO) insane laws passed every day that steal our liberty, yet makes [some] people tremendously happy. The applause seems to come from those that believe the government’s job is to take care of us…while our liberty slowly dies away.
